The Greatest Journey Begins With One Step... Empty The Greatest Journey Begins With One Step...

As the sun would rise above the mountains of the Land of Iron, so too would Kensai Tanahashi greet the day, waking up with his head resting on his new companion, Tora, the siberian tiger. He would pat the large cat on the head, smiling a tender smile as he looked down at the formerly abused cat who had been returned to his home and seemed to not want to leave Kensai’s side. The magnificent creature seemed to have formed a bond with him, and Kensai would treasure that bond for the rest of his life. He would take this point in his life journey, where it was only himself and Tora together, enjoying the scenery that surrounded them in their new home, and use it to try to improve himself.

He would start by focusing on his ki, feeling the surrounding area as he activated his normal Ki sensory technique, feeling the chakra within Tora and himself, but not much else. He would then use his natural affinity towards wind, attempting to blend it with the sensory technique. He would meditate for an hour, focusing on nothing but the wind until he could feel his consciousness expanding outward, feeling the movements of the leaves on the trees and the birds through the air. The feeling at first was overwhelming, but Kensai would narrow it at first, allowing the range of his consciousness to expand until he felt he was at his limit. That limit was a truly impressive thing, and Kensai would smile with his progress at this, deciding next that he would do a bit of archery training after mastering his Ki sensory.

He would move and carve out certain targets on the trees that would be his objectives, beginning by first taking out his bow and getting into a nice comfortable stance as he would fire off a few test arrows to get into the grove of things. It had been too long since he had been able to simply rest and practice his archery, and the feeling of being able to do so was a welcome thing indeed, like welcoming back an old friend. He was reminded of the time in the bowyers shop, when he had held a bow for the first time in many years, and the emotions that had flooded through him in that instant. Each draw of the bow was therapeutic in a way, and would eventually lead to Kensai being in a state of peace. He would use that same wind affinity that he had used earlier, attempting to test the limits of his mastery of Ki, and would imbue the arrow with it.

The first thing that he would do was work on the stance that he was holding the bow with, finding a position where he believed that he would be able to pull off a shot that would be more difficult to see or hear coming, a simple tweak of the elbow, the bend of the knees, arch of the back, all of these things could play a part in the course of the shot of a bow. The wind that he had added to the arrow would make it feel lighter in his hand, and as he pulled the arrow back, it felt as though there was nothing there at all. He would pick a target, and let loose his grip, watching the tremendous speed that would propel the arrow forward, burying it deep into the tree. The result had been more than he had been expecting, and he didn’t think he’d ever be getting that arrow back. It seemed that he would have to be careful while using this technique, as of course, arrows were expensive.

Feeling as though he had accomplished much today, he would pay more attention to his companion, carefully brushing out the fur of the big cat and enjoying the chuffs and rubs that he would reward Kensai with. He felt truly at peace through all of his actions today, and he felt as though being in the homeland of his people was only helping that, something that he hadn’t believed would ever happen. When he was sent into exile in the desert, he had thought he would die there, but he used that to become stronger. He would become stronger still guarding the caravan, taking on the life of a great protector, and then once more when he lived in poverty in the village of Sunagakure, having lost his family not not his fighting spirit. Each step of his journey had brought him to this point in his life and strengthened him. Working for the village, meeting Kara again after so long, meeting Okane, his trusted advisor, and Azuma, his closest friend.

As he contemplated this, he knew that his journey was only beginning. This chapter in his life was opening up before him, and as he looked to reunite the Samurai Clans and help the Land of Iron grow into the country that it deserved to be, he knew that what was to come would be his greatest test yet. He knew that his life was changing, and The Shogun of the Land of Iron was prepared for whatever might come...
