Getting Back to Basics Empty Getting Back to Basics

Chika entered the training area, feeling a bit naked despite wearing clothing. Due to a freak accident that definitely didn't involve the clan and their dislike for his path in life, he once again lost one of his small puppets that he'd been working on, giving him a harsh reminder that he needed to brush up on his ability to live without puppets. Like it or not, he was a Hyuga, and they were practitioners of hand-to-hand combat. However, he first had to get down something he'd been neglecting for some time now.

Doing some practice finger stretches, he'd look to a small rock and begin making small strings of chakra, similar to how he'd manipulate a puppet, but instead of the more delicate strings used for delicate movement, he'd create stronger tethers for manipulating larger objects. Forming the string he'd pick up the rock with the stringed hand and let the strings lengthen, seeing how far they'd go before they'd snap from the tension. He'd do this for a while, slowly getting the strings to grow longer till they could reach the floor. Once it had reached that point, he was satisfied that his knowledge of puppetry would be enough to cover the rest.

Feeling more confident now, he'd send some chakra to the tips of his fingers as he did some finger exercises. This jutsu didn't make a lot of sense to him, as it somehow would improve both the speed and dexterity of his hands & arms, yet in practice it just felt like his hands were warmer and a little in pain. Still, he'd do some finger training as he tried to apply the logic of something that wasn't quite taijutsu but instead kugutsu. Having done what he felt to be enough finger excersizes, he'd make some noncomittal  chakra strings and test out of the idea would actually work, and while it wasn't perfect, he was pleasantly surprised to find his movements a little faster.

Satisfied with his progress in terms of puppetry, he turned his attention to that of his own body. Taking a more relaxed Gentle Fist stance, he'd make a few palm thrusts, pushing some chakra out of his hands as he did so to try and disrupt the air. It was an odd technique, as while it was a ranged attack, 5 meters was still short. But even with the poor range, he'd continue to push his hands and chakra out, one strike at a time. Every so often, he'd feel a small amount of force push out from his hand, but those moment were few and far between. He'd keep at it for a while, using his knowledge of rotation and applying it. After about an hour of practice, he was able to get a solid push every time despite his...less then skilled abilities in the field of taijutsu. But if he wanted to eventually apply these abilities to his puppets, he'd need to learn each and every one of them.

Finishing his hand...thrusting...reps...thing, he'd bring his attention to what some of the more stuck-up Hyuga would consider 'improper' and 'brutish'. Changing his stance he'd take up a practice position for Konoha's Strong Fist style. If ever asked, he probably wouldn't ever use it, but knowing how his fellow Konoha nin fought would give him a better idea on how to work together with them as well as give him an edge in case he did run low on chakra. Combined with the fact it used a person's lower half more often while Gentle Fist proffered the upper half, he was tempted to see if there was a way to combine the two styles once he got the hang of combat more. He'd make a few practice kicks and punches, unfamiliar with having to put power into his attacks and opted to go with more speed then power. However, after a good half an hour he'd feel more comfortable with putting more of his body into his attacks.

Getting Back to Basics Empty Re: Getting Back to Basics

A small chime would go off in Chika's pocket, surprising him. Pulling it out he'd be shocked at the time and how long it took him to get just the first 4 jutsus practiced. seeing that he didn't have much time, he figured he might get some simple jutsus done right before he had to go.

Taking another fighting position, he'd recall the basics of what he was told for the 'Body of the Bear' technique. It sounded funny, but if it helped defend against oncoming taijutsu attacks while his chakra was low, he might as well have it known then not have any defense at all, though he doubted he'd ever get so low that he'd abandon the Gentle Fist's rotation. To be fair, he didn't have much muscle mass, and whenever he tried to 'harden' them, it felt weird. Still, he'd keep at it for a bit till he felt satisfied with his progress for today, not like he had much more time.

Next came a simple lighting technique called Fusee. It was so simple, especially for a Hyuga such as himself, he wondered why they didn't teach this in the class. Heck the applications for it were endless. Signals, backup night light. Hell, if he ever picked up some seals, he could probably make a devise specifically with this for a focused on/off torch.

Finally came the next step in Fusee, the flair gun. this too was quite simple. Make a Fusee, then keep pouring chakra into it and BOOM, it flies off and explodes. This one made more sense as to why it wasn't used, but still, the fact it wasn't taught was ridiculous. If commoners could learn these two techniques, not as many of them would die or get lost. Heck in these woods it'd be quite reasonable to use it as getting lost in the woods sucked, and the chance of an enemy shinobi were low in the Land of Fire...or so he hoped.

Having quickly practiced his 3 quick list techniques, he'd book it out of the grounds and back home.
